MY STORY

An artistic delight for fashion and accessories runs in the Toro family.  It began with my grand mother who used to create unique knitted garments and accessories in every technique possible; some of my aunts are hand embroidery artists. This knowledge has been passed along since I was a child growing up to keep up the artistic tradition of the family.

I was born in Colombia and spent my childhood at my family’s clothing manufacturing company playing around with my brother between fabrics and sewing machines.  I acquired vast knowledge in production and garment design working on every stage of the manufacturing business.

At the age of 23 I graduated from a prestigious university in Colombia as a Textile designer.  Then I moved to the United Kingdom where I spent a long period of time traveling around Europe leading to the beginning of my passion for jewelry.  In 2001, I moved to the United States to continue with education and jewelry schooling.  Immediately after, together with my brother Luis, headed up our efforts to create “Dulce de Leche” a luxury contemporary menswear line that sold in major high end department stores in the USA and internationally. After 8 years of leading the production department of the brand, I embarked on creating the first accessory collection to compliment the ready to wear brand.

Paola Toro Jewelry incorporates techniques that come from the knitting world mixing them with embroidery, intrinsic woven applications and metal, creating combinations that lead the work to a fresh and modern direction.  I use organic materials blending them with stones, beads, leather and a combination of metals like silver and gold giving the collection a bohemian – eclectic look finding the extraordinary in the ordinary and creating unique handmade pieces.
